Portable hyperbaric chambers for home use

A portable hyperbaric chamber is a soft chamber made from reinforced, airtight fabric with a zip or seal closure. It inflates to its working pressure with a compact pressure and oxygen unit, and when you're not using it, it can be depressurised and packed down. That makes portable chambers the most practical way to have a hyperbaric chamber at home: no building work, no tanks and no dedicated electrical circuit.

Soft shell and mild hyperbaric chambers

Soft-shell chambers are often called mild hyperbaric chambers, because they run at lower pressures than hospital chambers. The Lay 1.5 and Sit 1.5 run at 1.5 ATA, and the reinforced Pro 2.0 adjusts from 1.1 up to 2.0 ATA. Not sure what those numbers mean? Read what 1.5 ATA and 2.0 ATA actually mean.

Lying or sitting hyperbaric chamber?

A lying chamber like the Lay 1.5 or Pro 2.0 is a full-length cabin, about 80 cm across and 200 cm long, where you lie flat on a mattress. A sitting hyperbaric chamber like the Sit 1.5 lets you stay upright or reclined on a supportive base, which some people find easier to get in and out of and more comfortable for reading or working. Both formats keep the controls inside the chamber with you.

Setting up a portable chamber

Plan for the chamber's footprint plus room around it for the unit and for getting in and out. A spare room, study, home gym or apartment living area all work. Keep the unit somewhere shaded and ventilated, and the chamber away from heaters, open flames and flammable materials. Buying a hyperbaric chamber: FAQs

Ask our team
What makes a hyperbaric chamber portable?

Portable chambers are soft chambers made from reinforced fabric. They run from a standard power point, need no installation, and can be depressurised and packed down for storage or moving house. Hard-shell chambers are rigid and heavy, so they stay where they're installed.

How much space does a portable hyperbaric chamber need?

A lying chamber like the Lay 1.5 is about 80 cm across and 200 cm long, roughly the footprint of a single bed, plus space for the pressure and oxygen unit and for getting in and out. Measure the room and the delivery route before ordering.

What power does a portable chamber need?

Our portable chambers plug into a standard Australian power point. The Lay 1.5 and Sit 1.5 units draw about 650 to 750 W and the Pro 2.0 about 1,000 W, so a session uses roughly 1 to 1.25 kWh of electricity.

What is a mild hyperbaric chamber?

Mild hyperbaric usually means a chamber running at about 1.3 to 1.5 ATA, below the pressures used in hospital hyperbaric units. Soft chambers like the Lay 1.5 and Sit 1.5 fall into this range.

Can I take a portable chamber with me if I move?

Yes. Soft chambers can be depressurised, packed down and moved. Keep the original packaging if you can, and contact us if you'd like help with the pack-down steps for your model.
