Medical hyperbaric treatment in North Queensland is provided by the Hyperbaric Medicine Unit at Townsville University Hospital in Douglas, the only public hyperbaric facility in Queensland outside Brisbane and the only one along the Great Barrier Reef. Its catchment runs from Rockhampton to the Torres Strait, and it runs a 24-hour emergency service, including for injured divers from the reef. Treatment is by referral from a doctor. Heat and humidity

Townsville's wet season runs from November to April, with maximums above 31°C and humidity often above 70% in the morning. A chamber full of compressed air warms up fast, so cooling is essential. All our soft chambers have integrated air conditioning. Set up in an air-conditioned room, wipe the interior down after each session and leave it open to dry, so condensation and mould don't build up.
