Medical hyperbaric treatment in South Australia is provided by the Hyperbaric Medicine Unit at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. Established in 1985, it's the second-oldest unit of its kind in Australia and the only hyperbaric medicine unit in the state, serving South Australia, parts of the Northern Territory and the Broken Hill region. Its triple-lock chamber can treat up to 20 patients at once, and it provides an emergency service around the clock for divers. Treatment is by referral from a GP or medical practitioner.
